James awoke one day in the middle of the ocean, on a rowboat. He possesses no memory from before this very moment, and all he has from before are two objects: a letter, and a pistol.
It was addressed to James H. ----ach. The first few letters of his last name were worn out, and he was unable to read it. The letter detailed an escape from angry noblemen, including a related noblewoman that helped him out of love... or lust, based on the language she used in the letter. James was was thankful she saved his life, and was determined to move forward.
With that in mind, he rowed for several days to the island of Shartak. Pirates quickly captured him. When the captain came to execute him, James acted instinctively and after a quick decisive battle, the captain was dead at his feet. James was then accepted as a pirate himself.
