Born in the year 287 BCE, Archimedes was a Greek philosopher,mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, astronomer, and general practical man. A very famous portrait of his life depicts Archimedes confounded on how to determine if a trinket of gold was pure gold or if a dishonest smelter mixed it with silver or some worthless metal. One night, while jacking off in his bath, he noticed that the trinket displaced an amount of water equal to its volume. By dividing the weight of the crown by the volume of water displaced, the density of the crown could be obtained. The density of the crown would be lower than that of gold if less valuable metals had been added. Archimedes then took to the streets naked, so excited by his discovery that he had forgotten to dress, crying "Eureka!" (Greek: "ε�ρηκα!," meaning "I have found it!")
